Just ask any parent. More than going on vacation, more than finding a restaurant with safer air, more than pretty much anything — the top COVID-19 objective so many want to see K-12 schools reopen to in-person learning. The incoming Biden Administration knows this, as well, and according to details in the new coronavirus rescue proposal, there will be a large emphasis — and a significant amount of money — dedicated to achieving these goals.

Biden’s plan includes $130 billion to help schools reopen plus billions more to implement rapid COVID-19 testing, with the goal to have a majority of classrooms open nationwide within his first 100 days in office.

“We can do this if we give the school districts — the schools themselves, the communities, the states — the clear guidance they need as well as the resources they need that they can’t afford right now,” he said.

Regardless of political affiliation or who you supported in the election, there’s not much doubting the fact additional funding to help reopen schools can be useful. Of the funding earmarked for K-12 re-openings, the goal is to help source personal protective equipment, ensure schools have the needed school nursing resources, and help improve ventilation and air purification systems. That means there will likely be funding for school districts to help implement ultraviolet air purification without the need to alter HVAC systems. Although some schools have reopened, a majority are still looking for ways to safely do so.

The Bluezone Viral Kill system destroys 99.9995% of airborne viruses and other contaminants in classrooms

Bluezone draws in contaminated air and purifies it with UV-C light that destroys all viruses.

Bluezone® by Middleby Viral Kill Units can be mounted in the ceiling, on a wall bracket or placed in floor stands. The Bluezone units work by pulling indoor air into a reaction chamber where it is scrubbed using a patented ultraviolet germicidal light process that destroys the RNA of the coronavirus. This essentially strips the virus of the ability to reproduce.

The CDC recognizes the effectiveness of UV germicidal light in killing the coronavirus as well as molds and bacteria. This means air purification systems like Bluezone could be funded through federal relief measures.
